The GitHub MCP Server is GitHub’s official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server available in both remote (public preview) and local (GA) forms that securely connects AI agents and development tools to live GitHub context, such as repositories, pull requests, issues, and code. It supports customizable toolsets (like repos, issues, pull_requests, code_security), a get_me tool for user introspection, read-only and dynamic tool discovery modes, and can be set up via Docker or Go binary; the remote version integrates via OAuth, while the local version offers greater configurability and security.
